Audition for 5 male dancers
news entered on: Monday, 7 September, 2009
DanceXchange is looking for 5 strong, versatile male dancers with previous experience, strong contemporary technique, exceptional performance skills and the ability to deliver text in performance to be involved in The Five Man Show.
The Five Man Show is a triple bill with choreography by Arthur Pita, Liam Steel (Stan Won't Dance) and David Massingham incorporating an eclectic mix of dance, theatre, humour and lift sequences. As a result of its popularity in 2006, DanceXchange is reworking it for a major tour in Autumn 2010, which will also include international dates. The show will be redeveloped for traditional end-on theatre spaces as well as the original Bare Bones version in the round.
As a precursor to the tour, DanceXchange will be presenting The Five Man Show (Audition/Work in Progress) at British Dance Edition (BDE) in Birmingham on Friday 5 February 2010.
This audition is only for the BDE work in progress, but could lead to the full creation and tour in Autumn 2010 which is currently funding pending.
Date Commitments
Monday 4 January, up to and including Friday 5 February 2010
Fees
£350 per week plus £140 p/w travel and accommodation allowance for non West Midlands based dancers
Auditions will be held on Saturday 4 October, 2pm - 5pm at the Urdang Studios, London.
Attendance by invitation only. To apply, please email Mike O'Dwyer your CV and photo.
All applicants must hold a UK passport or valid work permit.

... especially when it's this good! One of the mums of the students involved in our Telford residency got in touch last week - here are her thoughts on the show.
"Well where do I start, what an amazing performance and the venue just made it even better... I loved the whole of the performance from start to finish. Bare Bones are an amazing, extraordinary creative team of talented and experienced people who clearly show their love of contemporary dancing... the more I see the more I am getting hooked... and can't wait to see more. Thank you all so much for giving me the opportunity. One of which I will not forget... Good luck with the rest of the tour." Julie Fears
Thanks Julie! If you've seen the show and want to send us your thoughts, you can complete our online survey or email us.
Next stop for us is Sheffield City Hall Ballroom on 6 April. Hope to see you there!

The dancers have had great fun this week in residency at RAF Cosford near Telford, working with students from Charlton School, Hadley Learning Community, and the Find Your Talent Making Choreographers project.
During a series of workshops, the students put together original music and dance for three pieces inspired by the setting of the residency (a huge aircraft hangar full of planes, bits of engines, and RAF uniforms!).
These pieces were performed publicly for the first time last night at the opening night of Bare Bones 6, and they'll be repeated tonight as well. Looking at some of the pics below, we think you'll agree it's been quite a fun week...!

Huge thanks to all involved in making this residency happen, not least RAF Cosford for providing one of the most unique and fantastic Bare Bones venues of all time!
Joe's back...

Hey All,
New boy (and recently recovered from injury) Joe here. Just on a few days' break between performing in Liverpool and flying to Jersey. Though I'd write few words on my unfortunate incident, so the story goes that we did opening night in Birmingham back on the 5th Feb. Next day in class my back crunches (nothing new there so I carried on), by the time we'd got to working on notes from the show the night before I was pretty much unable to move without feeling like I was being stabbed in my lower back.
So I get sent off to the physio, a few needles and lots of pain later I get back to the theatre and with an hour to go until the show starts the rest of the company are altering the show to go on without me, in fact, I think some of them were enjoying the break from routine!
I've been slowly recovering since and gradually being put back into the show and we've now been doing the show as it was originally intended for about two or three weeks now so huzzah!!
So far the Bare Bones experience has proved to be a learning curve, having never worked on a show where the audience is on all four sides before. I still find myself onstage sometimes thinking "Aaaaargh where's my front?!" but you learn tricks for orientating yourself. Anyway, enough rambling, time for another cuppa (Hooray for days off).
Feeling the love...

Customer service gets the thumbs up in Birmingham
"I went to The Lowry last evening and truly enjoyed the experience. I have not seen Bare Bones before, but I shall definitely be telling all my dancing associates about how professional, original and exciting your company is. Excellent work please keep it up. The experience of viewing dance in the round was tremendous. Many thanks for a pleasurable evening." Audience comment

During rehearsals at The Lowry last week, student photographer Neil Pilkington dropped by to take some photographs for his Bolton College photography course portfolio.
Check out the results here - from the home page, go to "click here to see dance pictures" then "Bare Bones" at the bottom of the page.
If you're interested in dance photography and would like to get some experience of capturing a professional company in rehearsal, email us. We'll do our best to help you, as long as our hectic tour schedule allows!
Date change in Sheffield
news entered on: Thursday, 12 February, 2009
Due to concerns our Sheffield audiences might be disrupted by noise filtering through from a Russell Watson concert in the venue upstairs on the same night, the decision has been taken to move us to the night before.
So, if you were planning to come and see us at the City Hall Ballroom on Tuesday 7 April, the date has now changed to Monday 6 April.
If you're an eager beaver and have already bought or reserved your tickets, please contact the venue directly to swap them... sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Introducing... part 2

Hi - my name's Katherine and I'm the Marketing & Press Manager for Bare Bones.
I'm responsible for anything that's related to promoting the company or the show. So far that's involved sorting the design and print of tour flyers/posters/souvenir programmes, arranging e-flyers and video footage for venues, writing press releases and direct mail letters, managing the website, and creating the marketing pack that venues use when they're selling the show to their audiences.
It's a challenging but very rewarding job, one that involves good time management, a heavy dose of admin, and a sprinkling of creativity thrown in for good measure. Which is why I like what I do so much...being creative and bringing ideas to the table breaks up the planning and admin, keeping the whole process interesting. Plus you get to organise (and attend) VIP receptions, which generally involves a glass of wine and some tasty nibbles - a nice little perk of the job!
Another perk is going on tour with the company - it's a great opportunity to meet the marketing people at venues (something Marketing Managers for companies so often don't get to do, but a brilliant chance to put a face to the name) as well as seeing first hand audience reactions to the show. I don't get to go to every venue, but last night I was in Salford watching the first performance at The Lowry. With Joe sadly injured and unable to perform, there were some nerves beforehand about how it would go - but it got a great reaction from the audience and was a sell out. Brownie points for the marketing team at The Lowry! Next stop for me, The Place in a couple of weeks time...
